What is HTTPS?
HTTPS is HTTP carried over TLS. It encrypts traffic between your visitors and your website and lets browsers verify they reached the right server.
Why businesses care
Browsers label non-HTTPS sites “Not secure”, and login or payment forms on plain HTTP can be read or altered on shared networks.
Example
https://example.com/ with an automatic 301 redirect from http://example.com/.How to check
Visit the http:// version of your site and see whether you end up on https://, or run the HTTPS checker.
How to fix
Install a certificate, force HTTPS redirects and consider HSTS.
Common mistakes
- Mixed content (HTTP images or scripts on HTTPS pages)
- No redirect from HTTP
- Assuming the padlock means the site is trustworthy — phishing sites use HTTPS too
Check it with HTTPS Checker
Check that your website loads over HTTPS and that plain HTTP redirects to it. Free HTTPS check.
